There are two kinds of freedom.

  • Freedom from doing something you hate.
  • Freedom to do something you love.

Let's go through each to explore the nuance between them.

Freedom from 😤

These situations demand removing negative elements from your life.

  • a dead-end job
  • a toxic relationship

Freedom to 😍

whereas these things are closer to what your heart wants to do.

  • follow your passion
  • travel anywhere

Freedom from leads to the void

When we remove the negative thing from our life, it often leads to a void.

The void can lead to dealing with difficult emotions like
  • what if I don't land a new job?
  • what if the next relationship is worse than this?


Not having to deal with difficult emotions we keep going back to what we had earlier. The known and familiar territory.

Emotions during this phase are: fear, apathy, anger and regret.

Freedom to leads to the dream life

When we take the leap of faith to explore what our heart wants, it requires a lot of courage.

Staying in this situation isn't easy either, as it is unfamiliar and unknown.
  • what if this thing doesn't work out?
  • what will my friends and family think about me?


But because this is what truly feels like our life's task, we find ways to make it work.

The joy of listening to your heart, and using your gifts to navigate this unchartered territory starts to shine a light inside of you.

People around you, who were skeptical at first, see that you are happy with where you are heading and extend their support.

Once we get a taste of this, it becomes hard to go back to your old situation.

Emotions during this phase are: courage, willpower, joy, optimism, love

Navigating this journey from "Freedom from" to "Freedom to" is a difficult yet rewarding one.
